Quinte West receives ICIP approval for West-East Corridor transit expansion

In Quinte West, Tuesday, Sept. 1, I joined Mayor Jim Harrison and Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis to announce approval of a $1,751,300 partnership through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan for public transit expansion.

Ontario will contribute $550,400 toward the West-East Corridor expansion project.  The funding will provide new vehicles, shelters, bicycle racks, technological upgrades for safety and fee payment, and feasibility studies to support route expansion.

One encouraging aspect of this proposal is a planned link between the Quinte Access and Belleville Transit services. Eventually, users of both services will be able to transfer at Loyalist College and travel into the other city, expanding access to education, health care, employment, and other businesses and services.

Belleville officer recognized by Police Association of Ontario

I was pleased to join Police Association of Ontario president Bruce Chapman and other dignitaries Monday to recognize Belleville Police Service Const. Scott Tinsley on being named a finalist in the PAO Police Services Hero of the Year Awards.

Tinsley was nominated in the "on-duty difference maker" category for his role in safely resolving an abduction attempt and high-speed chase last September.

Smith re-opens constituency office to walk-in visits

Todd Smith, MPP for Bay of Quinte, has re-opened his constituency office to walk-in inquiries.

Visitors will notice enhanced safety precautions including a plexiglass barrier at the service window and hand hygiene stations. Smith has also instituted a rigorous cleaning protocol within the office.

"My team has remained in the office throughout the pandemic to serve the people of Bay of Quinte by phone, email, or appointment. Due to Ontarians' successful efforts to flatten the curve and reduce community transmission of COVID-19, we feel confident to open the doors and expand our services," said Smith.

For the best service and to promote social distancing given the office's limited waiting area, Smith recommends constituents continue to call ahead at 613-962-1144 to book appointments where possible. The office will be open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
